GH has been undertaking analyses of the wind speed and energy production of wind farm sites since the early 1990’s and in 1998 launched WindFarmer, a market leading wind farm design tool which is used for energy capture calculations. Garrad Hassan has assessed the energy production of over 40,000MW of wind power, in dozens of countries, including many of the world’s largest individual projects, and continues to underpin developments for all of the major developers.

There are six elements to a formal analysis: site visit, data assimilation, wind analysis, wind flow and wake modelling, energy capture assessment and uncertainty analysis. At Garrad Hassan we pride ourselves on presenting both the central estimate and uncertainty energy production results in a clear and concise way suitable for project investors seeking to make financial decisions. GH has validated the methodologies employed using over 300 wind farm years of operational wind farm data to date and continues to review and refine the methodologies employed.
